Arts and Heritage
History, landscape, museums and the public life of culture. The final exhibition is held in town.
The university
Teaching in this town started in 1894, in rooms that looked at the castle. The university charter came later. The place did not move.
The crest carries an open book, the fells, and a lion. They are not decoration. The book is the work. The fells are the field sites and the reason the campus is here. The lion is the standard we hold students to, which is plainer than it sounds: turn up, read the thing, and say what you think.
Global Engagement is the office for applicants and students who cross a border to study, and for the partners who send them. Admissions decisions sit with the faculties. Visa documents, arrival and the buddy scheme sit with us.
Skipton is a market town, not a campus island. The station is on the line to Leeds. Shops, a hospital, and the castle are inside a short walk of Castle Quarter. Ilkley, where Wharfedale sits, is one valley east and one bus ride away.
Students who want a bigger night out take the train. Students who want quiet stay. Both are reasonable, and neither is a secret we keep until you arrive.
Skipton
The global office, the chapel gallery, and the rooms that still look toward the castle.
1894Teaching began in the old grammar rooms beside the castle.

Who answers
Before you enrol, write to Global Engagement. After you enrol, your faculty owns the academic questions and we still own visas, rooms and the first weeks. If the inbox is unclear, start with us. We will pass it on rather than leave it sitting.
